Creators Class - Year 2

Welcome to Creators Class!

Welcome to Term 1!

Welcome to Creators Class, I am Miss Croker and I am your child's teacher this year!

Book Change is Monday and Friday.

Please ensure your sign your childs reading record and reading race. 

When reaidng with your child, please ensure you are discussing what they are reading aloud to aid their comprehension skills. 

Homework will be set on a Friday and is due on a Thursday. Please ensure homework is completed in pencil. 

PE Days are Tuesday and Wednesday, please send your child into school in their PE kits on this day to ensure the children get the maximum amount of PE time and to help ease transistions. 

What we are learning this term:

Literacy

This term we are largely focusing on our letter formation and handwriting. Alsongside this, we are learning what a noun, adjective and noun phrase is. We will then be looking at the power of three and commas. 

Maths

This term we are looking at the place value of numbers to 100. We will be looking at making these numbers and how we can partition them in different ways. We will then be looking at the order of numbers on a number line and comparing them. 

Phonics

We will be continuing to follow the Sounds Write scheme to help support our decoding in reading and our knowledge of different spelling sounds. We will be focousing on /ae/, /d/ and /ee/ this term. 

Reading

In reading this term, we are reading Who is Afraid of the Big Bad Book by Lauren Child. We will be supporting this text with different fairytales. 

Religion and Worldviews

In Religion and Worldviews, we will be looking at Judaism this term. We will be answering the enquiry question: Why do Jewish families talk about repentance at New Year? We will start by engaging with the idea of being saying sorry and looking at forgiveness in our own lives. Then, we will explore the story of Jonah and the Whale and we will look at how the Jewish community celebrate new year. 

PSHE

In PSHE, we will be establishing our classroom rules and familiarising ourselves with routines. We will then be talking about our emotions and how we can be a good friend.

PE

In PE, we will be looking at the fundamentals of movement and ball skills. 

Geography 

Our learning enquiry this term is driven by geography. We will be answering the enquiry question: What are the geographical features of the UK? We will look at the names and locations of the four countries, capital cities and surrounding seas of the UK. We will then look at promeinent human and physical landmarks around the UK. 

In Computing, we will be using Purple Mash. During Term 1, we will be practising logging onto the computers and Purple Mash independently. We will then be looking at Route Explorers on Purple Mash. We will be learning how to move a character in different directions along a route.  

In Science, we will be looking at Uses of Everyday Materials. We will be exploring why certain objects are made out of materials and why they are suitable for this. We will then be looking at how we can change the shape of solid objects by twisting, bending, pulling and squashing them.

In Art, we will looking at Walter Crane’s fairy tale illustrations. We will be looking at his illustrations and having a go at recreating them. We will be able to experiment with different techniques when using water colours.
